In her latest release, "Centering Mantra," Kendl beckons listeners into a world where music and art seamlessly unite. Taking inspiration from the ebbing and flowing nature of her clawhammer banjo compositions, fondly referred to as "mantras" due to their repetitive nature and the resulting flow state they evoke during practice, Kendl uncovers a shared essence between her musical and clay pursuits. With an acute awareness of the necessity for direct focus, strength, and a soft touch in the sculpting process, she skillfully harnesses these qualities, weaving them into the very pulse and form of her medium—an intricate exploration that hovers at the periphery of her artistic journey.

While her experience in playing banjo surpasses her time working with clay on a wheel, Kendl actively cultivates a beginner's mindset in her daily musical meditations, embracing curiosity and novelty to foster a more open and playful approach. Accompanying this musical exploration is a linocut image she personally crafted, portraying hands centering a ball of clay. “This image,” shares Kendl “reflects the amorphous potential inherent in both sculpture and melody, and the regular practice of trying to wrangle this creative interplay.”
